Steve Brine

the local MP for Winchester & Chandler's Ford

Steve attends Rethink Campaign Day

16 July 2010

New MP Steve Brine met with residents of Rethink Winchester on Friday July 16 on the mental health charity’s Fair Treatment Now Campaign Day.

Rethink was founded over 30 years ago to give a voice to people affected by severe mental illness and today, with over 8,300 members, they remain determined that this voice will continue to be heard. They help mover 48,000 people every year through their extensive network of support.

Following the event, Steve said: “I was only too happy to drop in as part of this national day. It was good to chat with the residents at Rethink Winchester and hear what they have to say. I think the key message I take away and will definitely feed back to my colleagues in Government is that we understand cuts have to happen but many people with mental health issues need reassurance that the state is always going to be there for those who genuinely need its help.  I know this is exactly how my colleagues in the Government see things but we need to try harder to get this across via the mainstream media.”
